Born on 1st August 1962 at Hoshiarpur (Punjab), Shri Gunjeet Singh Pannu did B.Com. from Punjabi University, Patiala in 1982 (stood first in the University). He qualified as Chartered Accountant in November 1985 and practiced at New Delhi from 1986 to 2000.
During professional career, Shri G.S. Pannu was active in the activities of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and held the post of Chairman of the Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India at the time of his elevation to the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in September, 2000.
Shri G.S. Pannu joined the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in 2000 as Accountant Member and served in that position at Bangalore, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Pune and Mumbai Benches. He was elevated as Vice President in 2018 and held the charge of Vice-President, Mumbai from 16.10.2018 to 30.08.2019; also held the additional charge of Vice-President, Chennai Zone from 01.02.2019 to 22.01.2020 and Vice- President, Delhi Zone from 02.09.2019 onwards.
Shri G.S. Pannu has made significant contribution to the organization wherever he has been posted as Member or Vice President, both in the fields of administrative and judicial work. He has been heading various administrative committees of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal. Under the Chairmanship of Shri G.S. Pannu, Computerization Committee of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal has been instrumental in harnessing the benefits of Information and Communication technology in judicial and administrative areas of work in line with the ‘Digital India’ policy of the Government of India. Under his stewardship, ITAT has launched the Official Website, Web Application, Mobile App of the Judicial Information Portal and e-Filing Portal. Presently, the Committee headed by him is working on the implementation of Paperless Courts in ITAT.
Shri G.S. Pannu has assumed the charge as officiating President of the Tribunal on 06.09.2021.
